What is Ethereum?
Ethereum (ETH) is a smart-contract network where apps, tokens and stablecoins run, and ETH is its native coin, used to pay fees. USDT on Ethereum (ERC20) and many other tokens live on this network.
In September 2022 Ethereum moved from proof of work to proof of stake in an upgrade called The Merge, so the network is now secured by validators who lock up ETH. Part of every transaction fee is also burned, which removes ETH from the supply.
What moves the Ethereum price?
The Ethereum price is formed by buying and selling in the market, and a few broad factors influence it. These are not predictions; they only explain why the number on the card changes:
- How much the network is used: the more apps, tokens and transfers on Ethereum, the more demand for ETH to pay fees.
- Supply and demand in the market, as with any cryptocurrency.
- Technical news and network upgrades, and staking: ETH locked to secure the network leaves circulation.
- The mood of the wider crypto market and the global economy, which often moves Bitcoin too.
How is the Ethereum price on this page calculated?
The card above shows the Ethereum (ETH) price in US dollars, with the 24-hour change and the time of the last update. Switch the currency in the card to see it in euros, UAE dirhams or Turkish lira: the value is the US dollar price multiplied by the market rate of that currency per US dollar. If your currency moves against the dollar, the local price of Ethereum moves even when its dollar price stands still.
The 24-hour change compares the current price with the price at this same moment yesterday. It describes the recent past and says nothing about tomorrow.
The price on this page is for display and reference only, not a trade price. When you pay or convert in Waletifi, the exact amount comes from a signed quote with an expiry that you see before you confirm. If the price hasn’t updated for a few minutes, you see a warning next to it.
Hold, receive and send Ethereum in Waletifi
In Waletifi you receive and send Ether on the Ethereum network itself, and the network fee (gas) is paid in ETH and shown before you confirm. The same Ethereum-style address also works on compatible networks such as BNB Smart Chain, but each network has its own assets and fees, so pick the right network before sending.
To get Ethereum, you can deposit it from an exchange or another wallet to your own address and, where conversion is available for it, convert from another asset; the minimum you receive and every fee are shown before you confirm. Availability depends on the pair and your country.
Keys are created and kept only on your phone, and we can’t touch your funds. Write your 24-word recovery phrase on paper and keep it somewhere safe.
Know the risks
Crypto prices can move a lot in a single day, and Ethereum is no exception. This page is not advice to buy or sell and promises no returns; only put in money you can afford to see go down.
