US stock market hours in Iran time
The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq are open Monday to Friday from 9:30 to 16:00 New York time. In Tehran time that is 17:00 to 23:30 while the US is on daylight saving time, and 18:00 to 00:30 the next morning while it is on standard time. Below: why the hours shift, the US market holidays and what a closed market means for tokenized stock prices.
When is the US stock market open?
The regular trading session on the NYSE and Nasdaq runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. New York time, Monday to Friday. There is no regular trading at weekends or on US market holidays.
NVIDIA, Apple, Tesla, Google and SpaceX all trade on Nasdaq, so the same hours apply to all of them.
Converting US market hours to Tehran time
Iran dropped daylight saving time in 2022 and stays on UTC+3:30 all year. The US still changes its clocks twice a year, so the opening time in Tehran shifts by an hour across the year:
- US daylight saving time (EDT, UTC−4), from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November: the market is open from 17:00 to 23:30 Tehran time.
- US standard time (EST, UTC−5), from the first Sunday in November to the second Sunday in March: the market is open from 18:00 to 00:30 the next morning, Tehran time.
When do the US clocks change this year?
US daylight saving time ends on Sunday 1 November 2026. From Monday 2 November 2026, the market opens at 18:00 Tehran time and closes at 00:30.
The US moves back to daylight saving time on Sunday 14 March 2027, and from the next day the market again opens at 17:00 Tehran time.
In practice, Monday's US session opens on Monday evening in Iran, and during US winter time Friday's session runs until the early hours of Saturday in Tehran.
Pre-market and after-hours trading
Some trading also happens outside the regular session. Pre-market trading usually runs from 4:00 to 9:30 New York time and after-hours trading from 16:00 to 20:00; exact hours depend on the broker.
Volume is thinner at these times, and prices can move in bigger steps. Many companies also publish their quarterly results just after the close or before the open.
US stock market holidays
The US market closes for US holidays, not Iranian ones. These are the usual yearly closures; when one falls on a weekend, a neighbouring weekday is usually taken off instead:
- New Year's Day (1 January)
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day (third Monday of January) and Presidents' Day (third Monday of February)
- Good Friday (before Easter)
- Memorial Day (last Monday of May) and Juneteenth (19 June)
- Independence Day (4 July) and Labor Day (first Monday of September)
- Thanksgiving (fourth Thursday of November; 26 November in 2026) and Christmas (25 December)
What happens to tokenized stock prices when the market is closed?
A tokenized stock lives on a blockchain and can be moved at any hour, but its reference, the real share, only trades while the exchange is open. At night, at weekends and on US holidays, the token's price can drift a little away from the last exchange price.
When the market reopens, if important news arrived in the meantime, the price can jump or drop in one step. Token liquidity is also thinner at these times, so a large trade moves the price more.
In Waletifi's Stocks section, coming soon and enabled country by country, you buy these tokens with USDT and see the price and fees before you confirm. The issuer's terms exclude some countries, including Iran and Afghanistan, and it may restrict addresses it links to them; weigh this like the other risks before buying.
