What is a gift link, and how do you create and claim one?
A gift link lets you send TON or USDT on the TON network as a link in any chat. To create one, open the Pay tab, tap “Send a gift”, enter an amount and a message, and tap “Create & share once”. If nobody opens it within 7 days, it returns to you. The section only shows in countries where it is enabled.
What is a gift link?
A gift link is a way to send crypto to someone whose address you don’t have, or who has no wallet yet. The app creates a link, and whoever opens it claims the gift.
Only TON and USDT on TON are supported, and the section is switched on country by country. Birthday and wedding gifts or paying a friend back are common uses.
Step 1: open “Send a gift”
On the Pay tab tap “Send a gift”, described as “USDT or TON with a link”. The “Gift link” screen says “A gift with a link”: TON and USDT on TON only, and unclaimed gifts return to you after 7 days.
Step 2: amount, message and theme
Enter the “Gift amount”; the crypto equivalent updates live beside it. Write a “Message” the recipient will see and pick a theme: “Nowruz”, “Birthday”, “Wedding” or “Simple”.
The network and contract fees are shown to you before you send, so the recipient gets exactly the amount you chose.
Step 3: create and send
Tap “Create & share once”, choose a chat and send the link. The secret part of the link lives only in the link and never reaches our server, so anyone who has the link can claim the gift. Send it only to the right person in a private chat. If you need to later, share a waiting gift again from “My gifts”.
Step 4: what the recipient sees
They open the link and see “... sent you a gift!” with your message and the “Gift amount”. They tap “Claim gift” and receive it to their own TON address.
Without the app, the page says “No app yet? Install from this link. Your gift will wait.” If they have Waletifi, scanning the QR or opening the link works.
Step 5: track the status
“My gifts” shows each gift as “Waiting” with the days left, “Claimed” with a date, or “Expired & returned”. A gift nobody opens returns to your wallet after 7 days; it can take a moment to show in your balance.
If you sent the link to the wrong person and they have not opened it, wait for the return. If they have opened it, there is no way back.
Common mistakes
These keep gift links trouble-free:
- Posting the link in a public group or channel; the first person to open it wins.
- Expecting to gift Bitcoin or ETH; only TON and USDT on TON work.
- Forgetting that the gift amount sits in the gift contract until it is claimed or returned, so it is not in your normal balance.
- Skipping a small test before a large gift.
