Waletifi security settings: how to secure your wallet

Published:

To secure your Waletifi wallet, open “Me” and then “PIN, fingerprint & auto-lock”: use a strong PIN, keep auto-lock short, leave “Privacy cover” on and make sure your 24 words are on paper. Your keys live only on your phone, so a large part of security is in your hands.

Step 1: open the Security screen

Open the “Me” tab and under “Security” tap “PIN, fingerprint & auto-lock”. That screen holds “Change PIN”, “Fingerprint”, “Auto-lock”, “Show recovery phrase” and “Privacy cover”, with “Erase wallet from this phone…” at the bottom.

The first row of that section, “Back up 24 words”, shows your backup status, for example “Complete”.

Step 2: PIN and fingerprint

Choose a PIN that is hard to guess and change it with “Change PIN”: current PIN, new PIN, confirm. The app says the PIN is never stored on your phone and only unlocks your key.

If your phone has a fingerprint sensor, turn on “Fingerprint”. The PIN stays as a fallback. After wrong PINs the app makes you wait longer each time: “For your security, wait ...”.

Step 3: auto-lock and privacy cover

“Auto-lock” sets how long the app can sit in the background before it asks for the PIN or fingerprint again. Pick the shortest time that suits you, especially if others use your phone.

“Privacy cover” hides the app’s content in the recent-apps list. The recovery phrase and PIN screens are always secure and block screenshots.

Step 4: check your backup

“Show recovery phrase” asks for your PIN and fingerprint and shows the 24 words so you can compare them with your paper. Look only when you are alone; the words are cleared from memory when you leave the screen. If you have no paper copy yet, write one now.

Step 5: address book and the review screen

Save trusted addresses under “Me” and “Address book” so you don’t copy long addresses each time. For an exchange account, mark “Exchange deposit address” so the app asks for a memo.

And never skim the review screen: warnings like “This address resembles one in your history”, “Handle points to a different address” and “Memo missing” exist to stop exactly these mistakes.

Rooted phones, erasing, and what the app never does

If your phone is rooted, the app says “This phone is rooted” and “You can continue, but your keys are less secure.” It doesn’t block you, but a clean phone is safer.

Erasing is never silent: “After 10 attempts, you can choose to erase your wallet. It is never automatic.” Make sure you have the phrase first. Waletifi never does these things:

  • Ask for your recovery phrase: “Support never asks for your 24 words”.
  • Put the phrase on the clipboard; a copied address is cleared after 60 seconds.
  • Send your keys or PIN to a server; the server cannot move your funds.
  • Block a rooted phone.

Questions and answers

What if I forget my PIN?

The PIN is not stored, so it can’t be recovered. Restore the wallet with your recovery phrase on this or another phone.

Is the wallet erased after wrong PINs?

No. After 10 attempts the app only offers to erase, and nothing is erased without your confirmation.

Can Waletifi take or freeze my money?

The server can’t move funds because your key stays on your phone and transactions are signed there.

Is it safe on a rooted phone?

The app works but warns that your keys are less secure. With a meaningful balance, use a clean phone.
